MERRY GO WORLD

After the internet became widely spread, we can access a lot of information through internet devices such as smartphones. It has become possible to know many things about the world even without physically going there. This provides us with enormous benefits, such as reducing the time needed for searching information, faster and wider communication, and the ability to watch events happening in foreign countries in real-time or at a convenient time. On the other hand, an overload of information can lead to confusion. Also, detailed information can make us mistakenly believe we understand it fully. 'Merry Go World' is an installation that represents our enjoyable yet chaotic circumstances.

This installation, inspired by the zoetrope (a rotating animation device created by William George Horner in 1834), represents a state where one can access any frames(information) regardless of time by entering its interior. The scenery made of papier-mâché reflects knowledge that prioritizes superficial images. When you enter the structure inspired by a Greek parthenon, a 360-degree panoramic view appears. The scenery, composed of iconic images from around the world collected via the internet, is divided into five layers. Each layer alternately rotates in opposite directions, creating a rapidly changing landscape.
